Listed below are all the volunteering opportunities we offer, their responsibilities, and approximate time commitment that can be expected.
General Tutor | 2-4 hours per week
Tutors will have students assigned to them and generally spend 2 to 3 hours a week tutoring. All tutors receive a mandatory training session and will meet publicly with their student. This is a great opportunity for individuals seeking experience in teaching, leadership, and productively giving back to their community.
Recruitment Committee | 1-4 hours per week
Recruit new students, tutors, and volunteers for the Literacy Project. Also being in contact with various agencies and educational institutions to raise awareness of our program.
Tutor Coordinator | 1-4 hours per week
Coordinate new volunteers to assigned students and manage the overall schedule.
Tutor Room and Materials Committee | 1-3 hours per week
Keeping our rooms clean and teaching materials up-to-date is imperative. Volunteers will take inventory and catalog our teaching materials as well as discard outdated materials and organize our space and equipment for maximum efficiency.
Publicity Committee | 1-3 hours per week
Work with the library to increase awareness of the Literacy Project. Design and distribute public announcements through various media, such as flyers, posters, TV, and radio advertisements.
Event Committee | 1-3 hours per week
Volunteers will work with other committee members to plan and design events as well as securing the proper venues for the events, which can range from tutor training sessions to town events.
Testing | 2-4 hours per week
We test new students to see where their reading level lies. Volunteers will be in charge of administering tests and evaluating their results.
Technical Support | 1-4 hours per week
Help us maintain and expand our presence online. Update our social media pages with news and progress of the Literacy Project. Conduct student and tutor data entry into our database. Design and maintain our website.
Technical experience highly recommended.
Board of Directors Member | 1-3 hour monthly meetings; 1-3 hours per week
Have experience running a community project? We are actively seeking new members for our Board. Members will attend monthly meetings, take leadership by helping the Board make decisions, and come up with new ideas to help spread the Literacy Project.
We are currently seeking a treasurer with experience in accounting.
